Artist statement
Cridacompany is a transdisciplinary laboratory, developping a very specific approach of itinerant work.
For each of our creation, circus arts is a travel buddy. Our travels through landscapes, real or artistic ones, are done with a full freedom. Circus, music and photography are our three ways to express one single gaze on the word and on humans. In each creation, they can meet, go through one another, or stay autonomous.
The link is the surrealistic sap that stands in our burlesque winks and the unexpectable side that irrigates our work in the three arts.
Cridacompany is a french-catalan circus company created in Toulouse in 2006, after the two cofounders, Julien Vittecoq and Jur Domingo met at the Lido Circus School in Toulouse. As directors and choregraphers they performed from Sweden to Mexico passing by Africa. They performances are inhabitated by strangeness and percussivity, where virtuosity meets the intention of a new language between circus and dance, singing and performance.
They recurrent themes are impediment, obstacles and deformation which let emerge situations and characters imprinted by a confusing humor. With the photography work, they play with the body and its possibilities. In a very bare style, they’re taking a playful and original look on situation, leaving the door open to emotions, from the most amusing to the most disturbing ones.
