Throughout five days, the Southern Coalition’s partners will meet in Torres Vedras and Lisboa to debate around issues related to Cultural Mediation and Accessibility. Inspiring guest speakers and case studies will share their learnings and insights within the following topics:

  • Reading territories: engaging our time and communities in rural settings;
  • Culture & territory: building identity;
  • Culture & Urban regeneration through social cohesion;
  • Participatory artistic practices;
  • Audiences as coproducers;
  • Trespassing barriers to cultural participation;
  • Clear and accessible communication;
  • Cultural participation & Education: Bridging the Arts and Schools;
  • Mapping resources, and Questioning practices through a game of “Speedy Mediation”.

Invited speakers and facilitators include: Madalena Victorino, Luís Sousa Ferreira, Corina Bucea (CCC Cluj), Inês Barahona, Alix Sarrouy, Cláudia Hortêncio and Marta Martins (Artemrede), Félix Dupin-Meynard (CNRS/Montpellier), Julia Sterner (Occitanie en Scène), Giada Calvano and Lluís Bonet (University of Barcelona), Maria Vlachou, Carla Tommasini (Pergine Spettacolo Aperto), Le Parvis – Scène nationale Tabes Pyrénées and Théâtre + Cinéma – Scène nationale Grand Narbonne, Rita Tomás and Maria Ana Freitas (Teatro do Bairro Alto), Paulo Pires do Vale and Sara Brighenti (Plano Nacional das Artes), and Marta Silva (LARGO Residências).

The project’s partners will also get to know Torres Vedras’ artistic scene through the moving eyes of a local guide, attend a theatre/clown performance in Lisbon, and get a gist of Portuguese culture while visiting a typical wine cellar and tasting grilled sardines in a warm summer night.

Complementarily to the internal programme of lectures and hands-on sessions, a “Thinking corner” assembling a video and audio repository of good practices will be made available in the project’s media platforms.

Two documentaries will also be exhibited at Teatro-Cine de Torres Vedras (free admission for all audiences):

“Water” by Eva Ângelo [2010]

Documentary about the creation process of “VALE”, a performance by Madalena Victorino with music by Carlos Bica, commissioned and produced by Artemrede.
A look at the encounters between people coming from dance, theatre, and music, and people from local communities with various ages, routines and professional backgrounds.

“Geração SOMA” by Pedro Sena Nunes [2019]

Documentary accompanying the creative process of the “Generation SOMA” project, an inclusive and social project financed by the program PARTIS (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation) that worked with children between 5 and 16 years old from elementary schools in Lisbon, integrating children with Special Educational Needs, teachers and parents.
