Artist statement
My name is Bruno Alexandre, and I am a choreographer, dancer, and artistic director of the Festival Interferências. I have also worked as an assistant director, rehearsal assistant and wrote texts for performances.
Dance has appeared in my life as a way of practicing my curiosity towards the ideas of liberty, intensity and transgression. There was also a time before Dance, when I studied law supported in an idea of justice and equality that, in a way, also fills my work as a choreographer, dancer and sometimes teacher.
In the last six years, I started to be engaged in creating my own body of work, according to an idea of expanding my desires and transgressions, engaged in crossing thoughts and practices that come from dance and its history, mixed with the claim of a dance without its competitive and hierarchic point of view.
In my work, I try to merge an idea of collaborative work with all the team that I am involved in, chasing the main objective of getting a utopic ethic or a utopic idea of what the work of dance can be.
I feel that I am already in the beginning of the idea of being an author nowadays, especially when I feel engaged with different kinds and ways of thinking what dance is and how its mirrors, and what reflections can be visible in the bodies (more or less specialized) that work with me.
