The production
This world dance blends East and West
The feminine as a source of inspiration. After creating a solo for Polish dancer Ewa Bielak, Hamdi Dridi is now imagining a trio as part of “DANS(E) HOUSE”. In this project, the choreographer interweaves dance, cuisine and music. Of Tunisian origin, Hamdi Dridi comes from a working-class family where meals are a privileged moment of exchange, reunion and union. In this new creation, he invites us to share this time of celebration of the living, of the intimacy and of being together.
On stage, three women performers invite us into their groovy house. They all bear witness to their lives as women artists and citizens of the world.
Through a lively, joyful choreography that blends hiphop, contemporary dance and traditional dances, their journeys complement each other, respond to each other and come together to the sound of live music. Hamdi Dridi has built his path between the two shores of the Mediterranean. From Tunis to Montpellier, from Beirut to Rome. All his pieces resonate with this dual culture. This new creation, a veritable rhythmic ode, is one of them.
The research process leading to “DANS(E) HOUSE TRIO and constellations” involved multiple workshops in which diverse groups of people had the chance to experiment and enjoy practices of community building and perform togetherness through dance, music, and cooking. The gathered materials inspired the choreographic and creative composition of the dance piece and gave way to the modelling of various iterations which shall accompany the performance at each location – its “constellations” –, ensuring that a trace of the faces, voices and experiences encountered throughout the creative process lives through each performance.
