Florence Bernad / Groupe Noces

Artist statement

Florence Bernad founded the Noces Group in 2001 in Montpellier.
The choreographer appears as a representative of a physical, theatrical and emotional dance, with a particular attachment to reaching out all audiences.

Her experience in moving from a subject for adults to a universe for children gives her a unique freedom of tone. She creates a representation / fiction, which goes from the intimate to the spectacular.

Her creations combine dance and text. Since Punky Marie in 2015, For LOVE in 2018 and I am TIGRE in 2020, she explores the circus acrobatic movement that she associates with her writing. Her choreographic composition is enriched by flying, which for her, becomes a poetic material. Her exaltation is expressed by the permanent tension of her performers, and a choreographic writing with sustained and embodied physicality.

Since 2001, the choreographer has created 10 shows. They have been broadcast more than 5,000 times throughout the national and regional territory, from the National Stage to the Cultural Center in rural areas. The Noces Danse Images Group benefits from structuring assistance from the DRAC Occitanie. It is approved by the Occitanie region and supported in operation by the city of Montpellier and the Department of Hérault.

The Stronger Peripheries project echoes the work carried out by the Noces Groupe and the choreographer Florence Bernad. Since 20 years, Florence Bernad has been questioning her committed creativity by exploring on stage subjects such as gender equality, migration, homophobia or even the theme of family.
Participating in Stronger Peripheries would allow Florence Bernad to broaden her search for exchanges and meet people from different cultures.

With each creation, she merges her demanding artistic work with actions of territorial mediation with audiences concerned by those subjects. Her experience in moving from a subject for adults to a universe for children, gives her a unique freedom of tone. With Baal – creation 2002/23 – quintet for all audiences – and Noé – creation 2022/23 – solo for very young audiences and accompanying adults, she concretizes a more assertive statement on the notion of deconstruction of patriarchy. For her two projects, the choreographer brought together a collective of authors composed of Aurélie Namur, Stéfane Page from the Boutique d’Ecriture in Montpellier and Bruno Paternot. Cooperating with producer partners and institutions, territorial actions with local populations are in creation.
