Artist statement
My early years and my first creations led me to seek how to make images of individuals abandoned in front of a society with different faces: a group of friends, a group to which our gender would belong, a family group. Each time, it was a question of a group, a nucleus, a cell; and how to extract oneself from it and survive it, or to be rejected from it and survive it. This banishment from “society”, however big or small it may be, right down to the couple, is my obsession. How to exist by oneself, to dare, to stand out freely; and to associate in the same way, with difference and freedom?
My physical approach based on the aesthetics of bodies in space comes to me through the peregrinations of my apprenticeship as at the CDCN Toulouse / Occitanie – Place de la danse and with the object theatre at the Organic Theatre in Buenos Aires as well as certain professional experiences such as the one with Thierry Bédard on the false pretence and the invisible theatre.
My desire is to continue the successful experiments of my previous creations: invisible theatre for its reaction and impact, its concussion; and the making of poetic images because that is how I feel most comfortable speaking. My works seek a mixture of media, an exchange with audiences and a diversity of performance venues and audiences. The artistic line questions and measures the gap between utopias and the realities of the contemporary world.
Its watchwords are :
It is now time to exist in the midst of the existing, without crushing oneself or being crushed, standing on one’s feet, to carry a value, a word, a thought that is mine; to be the standard of one’s own existence in the present moment and thus participate in the sum of all the existing that would constitute a world that is not normal but plural or multiple. It is necessary to short-circuit the time of one’s own existence, to short-circuit the regulation from above, to short-circuit all the intermediaries between my life and myself. Become alive again, be present in the present. To take back one’s power, to refuse any form of delegation of one’s capacities and potentials. To recognise one’s political being, to recognise that society is political, to recognise that politics is not outside of me. Recognise that no one can represent me, that all representation is only a parody, a comedy, an outlet, a jubilation, but only I can act. To recognise that when I ‘go on stage’ to ‘serve a text’, it will only be an acting citizen who comes to represent, it will not be any more serious. This is why my act of representation will not be, any more than the words ‘democracy’ or ‘state’, a band-aid or an answer to the ills of society, it will never be, like these words, anything more than an agent of social agitation. I never pretend to understand the world, it is far too big to fit in my body or my pockets, the world understands me, I am part of the world, I and we make the world. If the world is as it is, it is as we are.
