Artist statement
The artist that goes by the name NAME: explores the graffiti subculture and the wider cultural environment through a variety of approaches by thematising the relation between legal and illegal interventions. His works are, in a conceptual sense, based on a critique of the (mis)use of public space with an emphasis on the impact and effect that such works have on the audience or on social change while they address specific political, social, and economic conditions in which we currently live.
After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, Name: (1985) has been working in and out of Ljubljana in various artistic fields spanning from graffiti and street art to fine art and design. The work of Name: is largely based on participatory and collective projects. Having based his career as part of a graffiti collective, Name: has worked in various collectives and groups throughout his career. He has been a resident of Rog Factory for 12 years, forming its collective programme together with a large group of artists and non-artist persons and has since moved his studios to Cirkulacija2, another non-governmental co-working space / think tank merging art, technology and science. He has also worked as part of the collective of Fotopub and Tribuna.
